LOCATION:
Long Beach Airport is
located in Long Beach, California
situated thirty miles from downtown Los Angeles and
Hollywood. It is a 30-minute drive south of Los Angeles
International Airport (LAX) off of the 405 Freeway.
Long Beach historically was known
as a resort town with a large beach and busy harbour.
Today Long Beach is the largest port city on the West
Coast and has evolved into one of the major destinations
for sailing, restaurants and entertainment in Southern
Los Angeles.
AIRPORT:
Long Beach has ideal airport for a student pilot training.
The airport has five runways ranging from 10,000 feet,
for commercial airline traffic, to 4,267 feet for
light aircraft. It is a control tower airport with
all facilities including fire and rescue services.
The school and hangar facilities are conveniently
located to the southwest of the runways. Although
it is a very busy airport, with commercial traffic
equivalent to Luton or Manchester, following a short
climb you will be in the local practice area over
the beautiful beaches of Southern California.
Please do not be misled into
thinking that it is better to learn to fly from an
uncontrolled (unicom) airport with unrestricted airspace.
It will certainly be easier, but will seriously inhibit
your ability to manage busy airspace in Europe. We
have a combination of controlled and uncontrolled
airspace. Learning to fly from Long Beach will provide
you the knowledge and confidence to fly anywhere.
